Supporting young people to learn about working in the arts
England has a vibrant arts sector which makes a significant contribution to the economy. A
highly trained and skilled workforce is critical to developing and maintaining excellence and
innovation. Arts Council England plays a key role in building the workforce of the future by
supporting learning and skills initiatives such as the new Diploma in Creative and Media and
Creative and Young Apprenticeships.
Arts Council England works closely with Sector Skills Councils to ensure the availability and
accessibility of training and qualifications. We will be supporting the arts sector by raising
awareness of how best to maximise the benefits of the new 14-19 qualification framework, through a
range of events and by developing tool kits for arts organisations.
The Diploma in Creative and Media is a new qualification for young people that blends applied
and practical learning to help them to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of the
creative industries. The Diploma will open up opportunities both for young people who wish to work
in the creative industries and those that move on to different career pathways.
Arts organisations have an opportunity to support and develop this new qualification,
providing meaningful work experience, work related learning opportunities and insight into
potential career options within the sector.
