Stream, a city centre media company would like to meet women who have a passion for media and would like to begin their own company. Stream is the vision of Broadband Capital Ltd, and offers businesses in the Hull area the world's first IPTV service for business, including video profiles, business news and support.
Funded by the Hull City Council and the European Regional Development Fund, Stream was launched earlier this year, and specialises in interactive television delivered by broadband to PC's and TV's via a set top box.
Business Stream also houses a thriving incubator unit for businesses starting in media. Businesses who join the project are allocated an incubation unit for 6 months, with access to an individual unit, computer, meeting rooms, TV studio and state-of-the-art equipment.
To date, Stream has supported 14 new start-ups and now has space for a fresh batch of talent. However, they have seen a shortage of women coming through their doors. Mark Jones, Managing Director comments, 'This is an excellent starting block for any individual wanting to start a business in the media industry. However, to date we have had very few women apply. We'd be happy to do anything we can to breakdown the barriers for women in the industry'.
Kim Minshall, 24, was the first woman to enter the centre nearly 2 months ago. Kim now runs her own Marketing and Public Relations consultancy, Ruby Communications Limited. 'When I was first asked to join the incubator unit I was thrilled. Stream is innovative, forward thinking and probably the only organisation of its kind nationally. From the first day I was provided with my own desk, computer and on-tap advice from the best in the industry. I strongly recommend other women to take the plunge and start their own business.'
If you are a woman who is interested in fulfilling the dream of running her own media business and would like to be involved in this innovative project, Stream will be running an open day specifically aimed at women, on 5th October, between 2-4pm at their city centre base on the 3rd Floor, Norwich House on Saville Street.
Where you will be invited to speak to other incubates and have a preview of the superb facilities on offer. If you would like more information regarding the open day, or you would like an application pack contact project manager Ray McFee on 01482 482 903. E: Raymond.Mcfee@streamonline.co.uk
