The man who formed the first Oasis band from Manchester is joining the world famous Black Dyke Band for one day only - in aid of Huddersfield's Beaumont Park.
The Black Dyke Band are giving a matinee benefit concert at Huddersfield Town Hall on Sunday March 19 and now legendary singer/songwriter Peter Skellern is coming out of retirement especially to support the cause.
All monies raised by the concert will go towards developing new musical and entertainment facilities in Huddersfield oldest Park – opened in 1883 and now undergoing regeneration, championed by the Friends of Beaumont Park.
Skellern, who lives in Cornwall and will travel especially, is best known for his colossal hits 'You're a Lady' and 'Love is The Sweetest Thing' (which originally featured a backing by Grimethorpe Colliery Band – brass bands are old friends to Peter).
"The Friends of Beaumont Park were delighted the Black Dyke Band could squeeze in another concert in their busy 150th season (they are off to tour China later in the Spring). Having even greater entertainment diversity in this concert, now Peter has joined to team, will give the afternoon even more a sense of celebration. We are extremely grateful to Greenwoods Menswear for sponsoring this concert. One day we hope to stage events in Beaumont Park offering terrific musical variety – wider, more regularly and even more successfully than in recent years. "
"This Victorian park once had a magnificent wooden pagoda-style band-stand and a heritage of music in the park. We're looking for ways to one-day restore that musical heritage – and opportunities for local musicians across the vast musical range."
