28 JUNE 2006 AT THE LEARNING AND SKILLS COUNCIL, MERCURY HOUSE, 4 MANCHESTER ROAD, BRADFORD, BD5 0QL
The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) is close to completing a major restructuring exercise, designed to make the organisation leaner and more responsive. As a result of the restructuring, a number of vacancies have arisen within the organisation. These vacancies are currently being advertised and the purpose of the event – one of a series being organised across the country – is to encourage applications from under represented groups. The main target audience is Black and Minority Ethnic professionals, but applications are also being encouraged from women and from people with disabilities.
The target audience is prospective LSC recruits, at managerial and professional level, predominantly from BME communities. The event is being organised in partnership with the Network for Black Managers (NBM) and Robin Landman from NBM is issuing the invitations.
Structure (timings are approximate)
- 10:30: introduction from LSC Regional Director, Margaret Coleman. This session will explain the structure and remit of the LSC. It will also outline the LSC's current staffing profile and the organisation's commitment to address under-representation, particularly from BME communities.
- 10:50: introduction from Robin Landman from the Network for Black Managers to explain why the network is working in partnership with the LSC on these events and the outcomes that both organisations wish to achieve.
- 11:00: case study from LSC employees
- 11:30: break
- 11:45: the LSC recruitment process and its competence based framework. A presentation and discussion led by the LSC's HR team
- 13.00: lunch and networking
The LSC recognises that under-representation of BME communities at senior level is a serious issue and is committed to using positive action to address this. We hope that this event will demonstrate the LSC's commitment to making its workforce more representative and will encourage under represented groups, particularly from BME communities, to apply for the vacancies currently available within the organisation.
