Tom Bendhem : Collector - an exhibition organised by the Contemporary Art Society
This exhibition features works from the collection of one man, Tom Bendhem. A successful businessman who became an artist, Bendhem avidly collected contemporary art from the 1960s until his death in 2002. His diverse collection reflects a passion for painting, drawing, sculpture and photography. The exhibition features works by over 40 artists including Bridget Riley, Bruce McLean, Franck Auerbach and Andy Goldsworthy. Bendhem left his collection to the Contemporary Art Society which has organised this exhibition before distributing the works to museums and galleries, including York Museums Trust. Since 1910, the Contemporary Art Society has given over 5000 works of art to its member museums throughout Britain.
