180 NOT OUT! – A CULTURAL CELEBRATION OF CRICKET 2006
The Arts and Creative Economy Team in Kirklees is seeking a team of artists or an organisation to facilitate the art element of Kirklees' annual cricket carnival. This is a relaxed, enjoyable and colourful day which brings together local communities to share their passion and interest in cricket. The carnival day features fun, sporting cricket activities which test young people's skills; cricket teas from around the world; music from cricketing nations; and as a focal point a vibrant and colourful cricket themed parade. Last year giant cricketers, large cricket balls and flags from different nations were accompanied by a percussion band and paraded around the park. This year we want the parade to be even bigger and better!
The parade is a culmination of a series of making and creating workshops which this year will take place in a local youth club and on the site of the carnival, Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury.
It is envisaged that these sessions will start towards the end of June and run throughout July working up to an intensive making period culminating in the parade on the day of the carnival, Sunday 6th August 2006.
The fee for this project is £5000 and this is to include approximately fifteen making workshops and materials. There is an additional fee for two artists to be present on the day and help to co-ordinate the parade.
If you or your organisation is interested in taking up the challenge of creating a vibrant cricket themed parade, please submit a project plan and budget breakdown, indicating the type of features you would like to create to:
