Between 6 - 13 May, fuseleeds06 returns with some of the most dazzling, intriguing and rewarding experiences in new music in 2006. Details of over 50 festival events are now available and you can book online or through the box office on 0113 213 7700.
Keeping classical contemporary, fuseleeds presents the city's first performance of John Adams' Harmonium, sparking a focus on the American composer's work, plus premieres of new work by Michael Nyman & Hanif Kureishi, and a live soundtrack by producer/pianist Max Richter.
Live music gets something of a visual makeover in this year's festival, including our first commissioned visuals by flat-e for London Sinfonietta's performance featuring Antony (Antony and the Johnsons) and Sister Bliss' first foray into the concert hall. We celebrate some of our homegrown Leeds talent with commissioned new work by Opera North, Matthew Bourne's Glenn Miller Project plus a 1st birthday present for jazz collective LIMA in the shape of Chicago great Ken Vandermark. Two of the city's iconic venues play their part: Leeds Town Hall resounds to Touch's Spire and the Corn Exchange hosts six pianos, eight new works and Many Hands.
With headline gigs - including a heady triple bill that's rocking the folk world and Malian living legend Salif Keita - all wrapped up with film screenings, education projects, club nights and quirky venues, fuseleeds is a celebration of new music as you've never heard it before.
