Part of the Learning & Leisure Department of Leeds City Council, Leeds Film organises a broad and diverse programme of cultural film at venues across the city. In addition to the year-round Leeds Film Quarter and education programmes, it delivers the annual Leeds International Film Festival (November) and Leeds Young People's Film Festival (Easter).
The latest programme from Leeds Film Quarter is a diverse and exciting delve into the extremes of cinema.
Showcased is Carlos Reygadas, one of the world's most promising filmmakers with such films as the provocative Battle in Heaven, whilst a shocking yet compelling canon of work is appraised in the films of Michael Haneke. Past master Sergei Paradjanov is explored with rare opportunities to see such films as The Legend of the Suram Fortress and Something of the Night is an eclectic series of movies that examines the experiences of cities at night. Legendary composer Bernard Herrmann is celebrated to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his passing and, finally, the LFQ Specials provide exciting one-off's including Jim Jarm
