After graduating from the University of Leeds in 2002 with a first class honours degree in Media, Dean Allaway has used the skills and training he received at university, combined with his own sense of initiative and enterprise, to set up his own small production company, 'Sticky Pixie' through which he will produce scripts, animations and short films.
Currently working on a clandestine animated short project, Dean intends to produce, screen and hopefully broadcast a series of the same subject sometime in the near future.
Through his university Media course, Dean specialised in script-writing and film production but also experienced sound, directing and camera work. Active in every aspect of media within his university, Dean was a founder member of the Barnsley College Radio Station, 'Wired @ B.C'. A major catalyst in the creation, launch and running of the station in 1999, he held the position of Head of Creative Production up until his graduation in June 2002.
Whilst studying, Dean also founded the 'Young Film Makers Society' and held the position of Chairman from October 2000 - June 2002. Thanks to this position of responsibility, Dean recognised and established a previously untapped resource of funding for the production of student films from Barnsley College's annual budget, thus ensuring the future of Barnsley College's film entrepreneurs. Dean secured his own future in the media after winning the Kodak Award for a commercial her produced.
After graduation Dean worked as a freelance production runner for various companies including BBC Documentaries, Oil Factory Films, Silvercloud, Rollem Productions and ITV. He has recently become a member of the South Yorkshire Film Makers Network in Sheffield, formed to strengthen the region's community of filmmakers. Dean has close ties with Barnsley Development Agency which awarded the initial funding to set up the production company in addition to developing a firm relationship with CIDA (Creative Industries Development Agency) in Huddersfield which has provided him with the encouragement, advice and business support he needed to set up Sticky Pixie.
Dean's aspirations are high but undeniably attainable. With qualities such as a creative mind, natural leadership, and people skills, combined with an instinctive aptitude for visualizing, generating and developing ideas, Dean Allaway would be a valued asset to any media organisation.
