Audio Description Equipment Now Available For Hire!
Hearing is Believing!
More blind and visually impaired people will be able to enjoy arts events through the portable audio description equipment funded by Arts Council England, North West in their drive to make the arts more accessible to disabled people. Managed overall by North West Disability Arts Forum the equipment is now available for hire.
The equipment, which works through radio frequencies, can be hired by arts venues and arts and community organisations. The very reasonable hire charges are based upon an organisation's turnover. Those interested in hiring the equipment should contact TEAM at www.team-uk.org
TEAM will also be able to arrange transport of the equipment at an additional cost. Please note that four weeks' notice is required to book the equipment.
The equipment is only available for hire to be used with a qualified audio describer, who will provide an introduction to the arts event and a live description, heard through the radio earpieces. Describers can be booked through Anne Hornsby of Mind's Eye Professional Description Service on 01204 522481 / 07889 232438, Anne.Hornsby@btinternet.com.
As part of the Audio Description North West initiative a team of new describers has been trained to supplement the number of qualified accredited describers in the North West. Manchester Audio Description Service has been amalgamated with Mind's Eye. Former Manchester Audio Description Service describers have joined the Mind's Eye team in offering Audio Description throughout the region.
North West Disability Arts Forum and its project partners – Full Circle Arts, Arts Council England North West, Mind's Eye, TEAM, the Library Theatre, Liverpool Playhouse and Everyman and the Royal Exchange Theatres, look forward to the increase in service provision of audio description in the region through the availability of the equipment and the newly trained and expanded team of describers
