In partnership with Learning City York, Creative York ran a two-day Creative and Media Business and Enterprise course during this year's Festival of Science and Technology.
Delivered by CIDA the course was aimed at recent graduates and aspiring entrepreneurs looking to set up a creative/media business as well as existing small businesses/start-ups/sole traders in the creative and media industries.
Held on 14 and 15 March at York St John University, the course focused on the key areas of running a successful creative business such as Business Planning, Financial Management and Marketing.
Creative York member, Emma King was a participant on the course and said:
'I found it extremely useful, in fact it's the most worthwhile training course I've been to in the three years since I became self employed. It was fantastic and very motivating to have trainers who understand creative businesses and have an empathy with people who are in business because they love what they do. It's also very useful to meet other people in the same situation and know that you're not alone.'
Following the success of this course it is hoped Creative York will be able provide a similar programme to more individuals and business across York and North Yorkshire over the coming months. If you would like to express an interest in future courses similar to this please contact Helen Perkins (Creative York Cluster Development Coordinator) on helen.perkins@york.gov.uk.
This course is part of a Creative and Media training programme, subsidised by Yorkshire Forward through the Sub Regional Action Plan and managed by the Learning and Skills Council Area Team for North Yorkshire. The programme has been developed through Learning City York (York’s Lifelong Partnership) with collaboration from York College, York St John University, Future Prospects, Science City York, Higher York and York CVS.
